Habitat home-ownership

Habitat home-ownership

Habitat home-ownership is open to everyone regardless of race or religion. The mortgage is set as an interest free loan, making the payments very affordable. Our resources are very limited, so our selections are based upon three main categories.

1. Need

  • Current home is unsafe and in need of repairs
  • Overcrowding - lack of bedroom accommodations for children ans adults living in the home
  • Low household income - household income is not enough to rent or buy a home on the open market
  • Present dwelling has heating, plumbing, or electrical issues that are to expensive to fix

2. Ability to pay for the home

  • The family must have at least one reliable source of income
  • The family must have a decent credit score
  • The family must be able to provide employment verification
  • The family must be able to make a small down payment at the time of closing

3. Willingness to partner and participate

  • The family must willing to earn at least 250 hours of sweat equity per adult during the 12 month construction period
  • The family expresses a desire to attend Habitat homeowner meetings and promote the the mission on Habitat
  • The family is comfortable sharing their experience working with Habitat with other community members and local media
  • The family is aware that mortgage payments must be made on time each and every month
  • The family must also be aware of the restrictions on reselling the home
